Read on for what some of the first guests
thought of their Family holiday in
Crackington Haven staying at St. Johns
View
St. John's View
"A Cracking Week"

The clouds started to break as we got to Hallworthy and the Wilsey Down
pub, bearing in mind we were a little ahead of schedule we decided to stop
for some lunch - good food and good value.

We arrived in Crackington to sunshine and it wasn't long before we had
settled in to the fantastic house, the layout is great - ideal for holidays and
the views even better. Before long we were wandering down the lane to
enjoy a drink at the Coombe Barton.
Anybody who has gone to Devon and Cornwall
in the Summer holidays knows that probably
the worst thing is the traffic, saying that it's
always worth it! We left the Midlands at 8am
and the normal 3 hour journey became 5 due
to the traffic from M4, M5 intersection down
to Bridgewater.
On the Sunday we decided to
relax by the beach. Something we
ended up doing more times than
what we originally planned due to
the fantastic weather. The beach
is well served by the pub, the
Haven café (great filled rolls,
Origin coffee and fantastic ice
cream) and the Cabin café (good
supplies of wet suits, hoodies and
also a bar-b-q that runs in the
evenings until the foods all gone -
normally around 7pm). The beach
is great but even better with a
local knowledge! If you arrive at
high tide make sure you go into
the water on the right hand side
of the beach. The lifeguards always put out the
flags but there are hidden rocks to the left. At
low tide the rocks are exposed as well as yards
and yards of fantastic sand ideal for building
castles, flying kites etc.

The surf is great even on quite days it always
seems to be big enough to body board and on
the "bigger" days you really do get that
adrenaline rush.

Monday was spent exploring Bude, another two
great beaches and a nice selection of shops
whilst the boys drove the 40 minutes or so down
to St Mellion - apparently one of the best
courses in the country. In the afternoon they went stream scrambling. You
can come out of the house walk down to the bottom the field and then
follow the stream all the way down to the beach - all accessible and great
fun according to the three of them.
Thursday and Friday dealt us
more of the same fantastic
weather and a very similar
routine. Our youngest waking up
at 7am leading to a potter around
in the morning that involved
In the afternoon we came back
to Crackington for the bar-b-q at
the cabin and then enjoyed the
sounds of the local silver band
who play right next to the beach
on three Wednesdays in the
summer. The local WI run a
"sausage sizzle" - how very
English.

Wednesday was a trip to Rock (keep off the A39
and on the B3314 via Delabole for a prettier ride)
and a ferry crossing to Padstow, much easier in
high season than parking in the town. Not as quaint
in the Summer as on a chilly February morning
mainly because of the crowds but still pretty.
breakfast eating, paper reading, sandwich making before making it down to the
beach for midday. Body boarding and sun bathing in the afternoon and then
retiring to the pub terrace to watch the sun drop into the sea.

All in all - a great week in a great place
