When you walk through the front door of St. John’s View we hope that your eye is immediately taken by the fantastic views down the valley on towards the Atlantic Ocean. By doing so though you will miss some of the many details that we have designed to help your stay feel as comfortable as possible. |
St. John's View Accommodation |
Our approach has been to exploit as much of the site's natural beauty as possible. We can't say that everything has been done in the latest low-impact trend but, where we have used natural products, we have tried to frame them in the overall context of the house thereby creating a natural flow that we hope you will subconsciously enjoy. The Ground Floor |
A double bedroom with simple birch veneer wardrobes provices for all the space you could possibly want on a rental holiday - unless you decide to stay with us for more than a month! The views, as you would expect, are just as fantastic as downstairs; we positioned all the living accommodation to the rear of the property thereby exploiting the site's natural assets. When specifying the bathrooms our objective was to get us to the same place that sets apart good hotel rooms from great hotel rooms - the quality of finish. The limestone flags and matching tiles on the wall provide a fantastic base for the large walk in Matki shower with dual shower heads - the largest of which I'm sure I've seen being used in a car wash! A rounded double ended bath, matching basin with wall mounted water spouts add to the feel of luxury. The close coupled WC finishes off the look. |
Upstairs The stairs wind their way up to the first floor via a half landing and onto the full landing; under foot you'll find an oak floor. To the right is the first of three bedrooms all finished with crisp white walls and wool carpets. |
Returning back to the landing the second bedroom has twin divans that can easily be pushed together to create a double. The lighting, as in all the rooms is provided by wall washers illuminating the exposed ceiling timbers with separate bedside lights. Each bedroom has a master dimmer switch allowing you to create the mood you wish. The second bathroom provides a bath with shower over, basin and WC all to the same high specification that you would now have come to take for granted. |
The third bedroom is the largest and is set out with both a double bed and day bed. When you arrive you may think the day bed is more of a sofa but remove the cushions and a full-sized single bed appears. We have taken advantage of the timber frame - that gives the house its stength - in this room leaving exposed as much of the wood as we possibly could. Because of its position this bedroom also supplies the best view in the entire house. Bathroom 3 has no bath but a large shower, basin and WC that match the specification of bathrooms 1 and 2. |
are limestone flagstones, constantly warmed by the under-floor heating system ensuring the house always has a comfortable feel and avoids those warm and cold spots that radiator-based heating systems sometimes give. |
The front door opens into a small porch that after a couple of steps opens up to a vaulted entrance area. A custom-built open birch staircase takes you up to the first floor whilst a turn to the right leads you to an area for shoes and coats and the ground floor wet room. The style of the wet room reflects the other bathrooms, minimalist with first class fittings. We invested in a wet room with walkers and surfers in mind - what better option than to come straight off the surf or hills, strip off and jump straight into a warm shower! Moving back to the main living area our thought was to keep everything as open as possible. Under foot throughout the first floor |
The left hand side of the area is then left over to the kitchen. We have taken the stone frontage indoors and the kitchen cabinets are placed in front of slate that comes from the quarry only five minutes up the road. A variety of crisp white kitchen cabinets are accompanied by an integrated Bosch dishwasher and Diplomat range cooker all topped with a wonderfully black granite worktop. We hope you agree that the look adds to the clean, crisp feel of the rest of the property. |
We have a standard Sky package that allows access to all the free channels plus the Entertainment and Eurosport mixes. All of this whilst you warm your tired muscles - if they are tired - in front of our Scandinavian wood burner. The middle area is set out with a dining table and eight matching chairs. We have deliberately veered away from natural wood for two reasons: firstly, there is already enough in the rest of the house and secondly because we wanted something that on those beautiful days - that there seem to be more and more of in each passing summer - you can lift up and move directly onto the deck and enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner under sun or stars. |
As you look at the kitchen to the left there is an internal door that leads to a large utility area with tumble drier, washing machine and large sink (ideal for those muddy boots). To the right we have returned the worktop creating a breakfast bar and a office snug that will allow you to catch up on your emails. Please note you will need a 3G card. |
Beautiful house, perfectly set. We'd never been to Crackington Haven and thoroughly enjoyed our week. Yvonne, Neil & Family |
The views are framed by two sets of timber folding doors. To the right is our sitting area with two sofas - one finished in leather and the other, a personal fave, in fabric. The 42" Plasma screen on the wall is deliberately tucked away. However, when evening comes and you want to settle down to your favourite DVD or even if you can't face missing an episode of EastEnders the system dominates this area as you would expect latest technology to do. |
